Spider Awarded Façade Maintenance Retrofit Contract
for San Diego County Jail
August 14, 2006
Seattle, WA - Spider, a division of SafeWorks, LLC, has been awarded the contract to provide permanent suspended access equipment on the San Diego County Jail.
The $83 million, 990 inmate bed facility opened in 1998 with a partial façade maintenance system installed by another provider. To improve functionality, enable complete exterior façade access for window cleaning and maintenance, and maximize cost effectiveness, Spider has been selected to provide davits, mobile sockets, pedestals, and modular platforms. Additional pedestal locations will also be installed around the perimeter of the rooftop to enable platforms to be transferred to access all window areas of the façade.
Spider will also be installing all equipment on the facility, abiding by the facility's strict maximum security policies throughout the process.
Eric Mitchell, Project Manager with San Diego County, commented, "Spider's performance throughout the bidding process was unchallenged by the other competitors. Spider worked with the County of San Diego and California OSHA to provide a system that was cost effective and safe. This required several months of negotiations with California OHSA to come up with this solution. The County of San Diego is looking forward to completing the installation of the system so the windows can be washed for the first time since the building was opened."
Spider's recently opened San Diego operation center enables us to promote quality access equipment in this active construction area and assist customers in solving their application challenges.
