Spider a Partner in Large Bridge Project
August 31, 2005
Seattle, WA - Spider, a division of SafeWorks, LLC, has been chosen as a primary rental equipment provider for the demolition of two large bridges in Charleston, South Carolina.
Spider equipment will assist in the demolition of two existing structures, the John P. Grace Memorial Bridge and the Silas N. Pearman Bridge. The bridges have been replaced by the new Cooper River Bridge, the longest cable-stay bridge in the United States.
Bridge work of any kind presents unique access challenges. Jay Cashman, Inc./Testa Corporation, a joint venture, selected Spider due to their ability to provide effective access solutions. Spider has been contracted to supply six 5' x 15' float platforms equipped with twenty-five SC30 air hoists for a six month duration.
The demolition of the Grace and Pearman bridges is expected to be completed by January 2007. All of the steel from the destroyed structures will be recycled in China and 80% of the concrete will be reused in artificial reef sites.
